Golf Thanks
To: ALL Players and Sponsors of our 2007 UCA Foundation Golf Tournament
On behalf of our Board of Directors and especially the students whom will benefit from your gift of your time and your money last month – THANK YOU!!!
Those of you who have received the April 2007 Annual Report from the Foundation probably saw the quote from one of our Class of 1963 players and supporters for the past three years. I think it is worth borrowing for this letter as well:“How can something that gives me so much enjoyment provide such great benefit to others? Imagine a golf game that can help make a difference for eternity!”
Each of you helped make that difference… you braved fierce winds, more than a few raindrops, and even a Circling Raven imitation of a blizzard - with real snow flakes! Through it all, everyone that I encountered out on the course seemed to maintain an amazing spirit and frozen smiles. Much appreciated!
Planning an event for North Idaho (or even Washington) early in the season involves a great deal of hoping, praying, and nail biting where weather is concerned. If we are to hold the tournament on Alumni Weekend, we are locked into that early date. Even with all of the above (and, my nails are just now growing out), we were just one day too early, as May 6th was beautiful!
Each year we have tried to provide a tournament at an exceptional location and yet not pick a venue that will create a prohibitive cost to any of our alumni. As I’m sure you are aware, this is a difficult call as one of our main goals is to raise money to provide assistance to the many students (and parents) to whom a little financial boost may make that difference in being able to attend UCA.
This year our preliminary accounting shows that we probably will be able to add around $5,000 to our scholarship accounts. As you know this is not huge by the standards of most charity tournaments. On the other hand, we believe that the chance to mingle with fellow alumni and friends of UCA is helping build a base of future (and on-going) supporters for our students through the Foundation.
If any of you have suggestions for improving our format, our level of income, or any changes… we cherish your input! We are also PLEADING for more people to be involved with the planning and recruiting of players, sponsors, and prizes for next year! It has gotten to be too big of a job for just three or four very tired folk.
Again, heartfelt thanks to each of you,
DOUG WELLS
